Installation
Review the Installation notes before beginning your installation. Then choose from one of the following installation methods.
- Installing Double-Take Availability on a Windows server using the installation wizard—Use these instructions to install on a single Windows server using the installation wizard. The wizard will guide you step by step through the installation process.
- Installing Double-Take Availability on a Windows server using the command line utility—Use these instructions to install on a single or multiple Windows server using the command line utility. This utility automates the installation process by running an unattended, or silent, installation. It allows you to pass parameters through to the installation program instead of entering information manually through the wizard.
- Installing Double-Take Availability on a Linux server using the .rpm file—Use these instructions to install on a single Linux server using the .rpm file. The .rpm file can be launched from a Linux console or from a command prompt.
- Installing the Double-Take Virtual Recovery Appliance—If you will be creating a full server to ESX appliance job (see Selecting a protection type for details on which job to create), use these instructions to install the Double-Take Virtual Recovery Appliance on your ESX server. You must install this appliance before you can push the Double-Take installation out to your Linux source servers using the Double-Take Console. Depending on your network configuration, the appliance may or may not have to be installed before you push the Double-Take installation out to your Windows source servers using the Double-Take Console. In either case, you must install the appliance before you can create your full server to ESX appliance job.
- Installing Double-Take Availability on a Windows or Linux server using the Double-Take Console—Once you have the Double-Take Console installed on a Windows machine, you can use it to push the installation out to your other servers. The push installation is a full, client and server installation on Windows servers and a full server installation on Linux servers.
- Installing the Windows iSCSI Initiator—To support the full server to ESX appliance job type, the Windows iSCSI Initiator is placed into a folder on Windows 2003 servers during any of the above Windows installations. You will have to install it manually before creating a full server to ESX appliance job. Use these instructions to manually install the Windows iSCSI Initiator. If you are using Windows 2008, the iSCSI Initiator is already installed, but you will have to enable it through Administrative Tools, if it is not already enabled. (By default, it is not enabled.)
