Provisioning a backup repository server

This process creates a backup repository server in the cloud. This is where you will be storing your protected data from your source. If you already have an existing backup repository server, you can add additional disks to it.

  1. Log on to the Double-Take Cloud console.

  2. From the Home page, click Provision a new backup repository server under the list of repository servers.

Note:  A single backup repository server can have a maximum of ten total disks, including the system volume (which allows for up to nine user-defined disks). You should use all ten disks before creating another backup repository server. To add disks to an existing server, click the server name under the Backup repository servers list and then continue with step 5.

  3. Enter a Display name that will be used to identify the backup repository server.
  4. Select the geographic Region where the repository server will be hosted. For disaster recovery purposes, you may want your data to be located in a different geographic region from the source server. For example, a source server located in the eastern United States may be backed up to a repository server in the Amazon-US-West-1 region.
  5. You will need to add a New disk to the backup repository server to store the data from the source. The disks should be sized according to the source server, but large enough to hold the data and system state image. Additional disks can be attached as required. Enter the disk size in GB and click Add.
  6. If you need to remove a user-defined disk, click the Delete icon next to the disk in the Current disks list.
  7. By default, the backup repository server can be accessed from anywhere using remote desktop or VPN. If you would like to manage access to the backup repository server, specify the restrictions for Firewall rules.
    1. Select Limited access for the type of access you want to limit.
    2. Enter an IP address in the format x.x.x.x to allow a specific machine or x.x.x.x/y to allow a range of machines. IPv6 addresses are not supported.
    3. Click the plus + icon and the IP address or range of addresses will be added to the list of allowed IP addresses.
    4. Repeat steps b and c for any additional IP addresses.
    5. To remove an IP address, select it from the list and click the Delete icon next to the list of allowed IP addresses.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Review the backup repository server settings, and click Submit to begin provisioning your backup repository server.

You can monitor the status of the provisioning from the Home page.
