Connecting to the backup repository server
This process configures remote desktop, allowing you to connect to the backup repository server in the cloud. You will be able to set the Windows administrator password on the backup repository server.
- Verify that you have opened port 3389 for TCP communications.
- From the Double-Take Cloud console Home page, verify that the backup repository server status is Running.
- In the list of repository servers, click the backup repository server name to display the server details.
-
In the Server tasks area on the right side of the page, click Get Administrator Password. The page will display the Windows administrator password for the backup repository server. You will need this password to connect through remote desktop.
Note: The Get Administrator Password link returns the initially-assigned password. If the password has been changed manually, you will need to use the new password to log in to your backup repository server.
There is no way to retrieve a lost administrator password for the backup repository server.
- Again in the Server tasks area on the right side of the page, click Connect with Remote Desktop. When prompted, save the .rdp file.
- From Windows Remote Desktop, open the saved .rdp file by clicking Open on the General tab. If this tab is not visible, click Options to display the remote desktop options.
-
You will need to configure Remote Desktop to redirect the drives on the remote computer. This allows you to access the remote drives locally.
- Select the Local Resources tab.
- Under Local devices and resources, click More.
- Select the drives that you want to be able to access on the remote computer and then click OK.
- Select the General tab.
- Under Connection settings, click Save.
- Save the updated settings to the same .rdp file.
For more information about using and configuring Remote Desktop, see your Windows documentation.
- Click Connect to establish the remote desktop connection to the backup repository server.
- Login to the backup repository server using the password displayed earlier and change the Windows administrator password. Make sure you remember the new password because there is no way to retrieve a lost administrator password.
