Configuring full-server protection

In order to use full-sever protection, Double-Take Availability must configure the root file system for replication. In order for the replication changes to be applied, you will have to reboot your server. Ideally, you will want to reboot the server immediately. However, if you have to schedule the reboot for a later time, mirroring will start immediately. Replication will not start until the server is rebooted. Without replication, data integrity cannot be maintained on the target.

When making replication configuration changes, stop any applications that may be running and restart them after the replication changes have been made. Double-Take Availability needs to be loaded on the file system before any applications, otherwise some data may not be replicated.

Full-server protection can also be completed through the Connection Wizard.

  1. Start DTSetup.

If the server has not been rebooted (forcing the Double-Take daemon to start), start the daemon manually.

  2. Select Setup tasks.
  3. Select Configure File System or Block Device Replication.
  4. Select Full Server Replication Configuration menu.
  5. Select Add Full Server Protection.
  6. You will be prompted if you want to create the replication set. It can be created now or later through the Connection Wizard. Select yes or no.
  7. If you chose to create the replication set now, enter a user that is a member of the Double-Take Availability administrators security group, and then specify the password associated with that user. Press Enter to continue.
  8. If you want to view the contents of the replication set, select View replication set contents. After you have reviewed the contents, press Enter to continue.
  9. If you need to remove full-server protection, select Remove Full Server Protection. Confirm that you want to remove full-server protection, and then press Enter to continue. A server reboot is required to fully remove full-server protection.
  10. If you want to modify any of the data protected manually, you can select Configure /etc/DT/dtfs_mounts manually which will take you to the Configure File System Replication setup file menu.
  11. When you have completed your full-server protection, press Q as many times as needed to return back to the main menu or to exit DTSetup.
