Port configuration

By default, Double-Take Availability for VMware Infrastructure makes use of the following ports.

• Port 6331—Used by the Double-Take Availability for VMware Infrastructure console to connect to the DTAVI service. This port may be modified.
• Port 443—Used by the Double-Take Availability for VMware Infrastructure service to connect to VMware VirtualCenter and to the VMware ESX Host(s) via HTTPS. This port cannot be changed.
• Port 22—Used by Double-Take Availability for VMware Infrastructure to communicate with the VMware ESX Host(s) via SSH. Also used by each ESX host to connect to each other. This port cannot be changed.

If any of the ports in your environment differ from those listed here, you will have to provide the correct port number when setting up connections to the various servers.

When the Double-Take Availability for VMware Infrastructure console and service are installed on separate machines, the console uses Microsoft .NET remoting to communicate with the service. Microsoft .NET remoting uses random port assignments for communication from the service to the console. For that reason, the console should not be separated from the service by a firewall.

Enabling ports

You must enable port 22 for the SSH client and server on both the source and target ESX servers. Follow these steps to open the SSH port on the ESX server's firewall configuration.

1. Using VMware Virtual Infrastructure Client, select the host ESX server.
2. On the Configuration tab for that server, select Security Profile.
3. In the Firewall Properties window, make sure that SSH Client is selected, then click OK.
4. Verify that the Configuration tab shows that SSH Clientis enabled for the host on port 22.
5. Repeat steps 3-4 for the SSH Server.
