Provisioning a recovery server

This process creates a recovery server that will become your new source.

  1. Log on to the Double-Take Cloud console.

  2. If you want to create an IP address before starting your recovery process, click Prepare IP address for disaster recovery on the Home page. This step is optional. If you skip this step, Double-Take Cloud will automatically provision an IP address for you when the recovery server is created.
  3. From the Home page, click Provision a new recovery server under the list of recovery servers.
  4. Enter a Display name that will be used to identify the recovery server.
  5. Under Select backup repository server with the data you want to recover, select the appropriate backup repository server.
  6. Select an IP address if you created one in step 2. If you did not, skip this step and Double-Take Cloud will automatically provision an IP address for you.
  7. Select the operating system that the source was using.
  8. Select the Architecture that the source was using.
  9. Select the Instance size that is appropriate for your needs. If you want to estimate the monthly cost for an instance, click the Cost estimate link to see the pricing page.
  10. You will need to add a New disk to the recovery server for each volume you want to restore. The disks should be sized according to the volume you are recovering. Enter the disk size in GB and click Add.
  11. If you need to remove a user-defined disk, click the Delete icon next to the disk in the Current disks list.
  12. By default, the recovery server can be accessed from anywhere using remote desktop. VPN access is not available. If you would like to manage access to the recovery server, click Firewall rules to expand that section. You may want to consider allowing some connections to the recovery server (such as SMTP: 25, HTTP: 80, HTTPS: 443, and so on), so that when the recovery server becomes the source, those ports will be available immediately.
    1. Select a Name, which is the connection type that is being restricted.
    2. Select the Protocol that you want to restrict.
    3. Enter the Port number to be used for the selected protocol.
    4. Enter an IP address in the format x.x.x.x to allow a specific machine or x.x.x.x/y to allow a range of machines. IPv6 addresses are not supported.
    5. Click the plus + icon and the IP address or range of addresses will be added to the list of allowed IP addresses.
    6. To remove an IP address, select it from the list and click the Delete icon next to the list of allowed IP addresses.
    7. Click Add to add the firewall rule.
    8. Repeat steps a through g for any additional IP addresses.
    9. If you want to remove a firewall rule, select the rule(s) in the list of Current firewall rules and click Remove.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Review the recovery server settings, and click Submit to begin provisioning your recovery server.

You can monitor the status of the provisioning from the Home page.
