Connecting to the recovery server

This process configures remote desktop, allowing you to connect to the recovery server in the cloud. You will be able to set the Windows administrator password on the recovery server.

  1. Verify that you have opened port 3389 for TCP communications.
  2. From the Double-Take Cloud console Home page, verify that the recovery server status is Running.
  3. In the list of recovery servers, click the recovery server name to display the server details.
  4. In the Server tasks area on the right side of the page, click Get Administrator Password. The page will display the Windows administrator password for the recovery server. You will need this password to connect through remote desktop.

Note:  The Get Administrator Password link returns the initially-assigned password. If the password has been changed manually, you will need to use the new password to log in to your recovery server.

There is no way to retrieve a lost administrator password for the recovery server.

  5. Again in the Server tasks area on the right side of the page, click Connect with Remote Desktop. When prompted, save the .rdp file.
  6. From Windows Remote Desktop, open the saved .rdp file by clicking Open on the General tab. If this tab is not visible, click Options to display the remote desktop options. For more information about using and configuring Remote Desktop, see your Windows documentation.
  7. Click Connect to establish the remote desktop connection to the recovery server.
  8. Login to the recovery server using remote desktop.
  9. Format the disk(s) that you added to the recovery server as NTFS and mount the disk(s) using the Windows Disk Management tool.

Note:  If you are using Windows 2008, you may need to bring the disk(s) online before they can be formatted and mounted.
