Shared mode: RAM
Select this option if you want to redirect all boot volume WRITE requests to the local Flex Client RAM. If you select this option, it is also recommended to reserve at least 128 MB of RAM for cache. The cache is reserved by Double-Take Flex.
When this option is selected, all data written to the local RAM is lost when the Flex Client reboots.
The advantages to selecting this option are:
- It facilitates booting multiple Flex Clients simultaneously from one iSCSI target.
- It can also greatly assist in quick restoration of the Flex Client to a known pristine condition, simply by rebooting the Flex Client.
Before using this setting, please make the following changes to your Windows configuration:(You can either make these changes on the client then do a system copy, or you can boot from the iSCSI disk and make the changes on the iSCSI disk OS directly.)
- Windows paging file should be set to use the same for minimum/maximum size, and a low value used (2-32 MB, depending on the size of RAM write cache)
- Disable the following:
- Windows automatic updates
- Automatic updates of software that could automatically download a large amount of data (such as an automatic update of a virus definition file used by anti-virus software)
- Hibernation
- System restore
- Windows XP / 2003 Prefetcher (see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307498 for details)
