Double-Take Move server licensing

Double-Take Move has two different licensing strategies.

The Double-Take Move console can be used in mixed environments where some servers are being migrated using Double-Take Move licenses and other migrations are using Double-Take Availability licenses.

Double-Take Move migration license

Purchase requirements for the source—You must purchase a Double-Take Move migration license for each source you want to migrate.
Purchase requirements for the target—No license is required for the target when using a Double-Take Move migration license on the source.
Server installation—You must use the Double-Take Move console to install Double-Take Move on each server.
Migration timeline—You must complete the migration before the Double-Take Move licenses expires. Additional Double-Take Move migration licenses can be purchased and added to the Double-Take Move console. Typically, the source license is valid for 30 days and the target license for 90 days from when the server is accessed for a job.
Console locking requirements—The Double-Take Move console must be licensed to a particular machine in order to manage the Double-Take Move source server licenses. License management on the console shows you the number of migration licenses used and remaining.

Double-Take Availability license

Purchase requirements for the source—You must purchase a Double-Take Availability license for the source.
Purchase requirements for the target—You must purchase a Double-Take Availability license for the target.
Server installation—You can use the Double-Take Move console to install Double-Take Availability on each server, or you can use the Double-Take Move installation program. Regardless of your installation method (console or installation program), you will need a Double-Take Availability activation code for each server for the installation.
Migration timeline—There is no expiration date with this license. After the migration, the Double-Take Availability licenses can be used on the servers for high availability workload optimization, or the licenses can be reused to migrate other servers.
Console locking requirements—The Double-Take Move console does not have to be licensed to a particular machine when using it to install with Double-Take Availability licenses.
