This process allows you to automatically deactivate a license from a server, making it available to be used on another server. In order to complete this process, you must be able to uninstall Carbonite Availability from the server you want to deactivate using the Carbonite Replication Console or the Windows uninstall applet. You can complete an unlimited number of deactivations.
If you failed over a full server job but did not enable reverse protection when you configured the job, you will lose the activated target license. To workaround this situation, uninstall Carbonite Availability on the failed over source (currently on the target hardware) using the Carbonite Replication Console or Windows uninstall applet, and the uninstall process will deactivate both the source and target licenses. You can then reinstall Carbonite Availability on the failed over source (currently on the target hardware) and reactivate the source's original license.
If you are using the Windows uninstall applet, select to deactivate your licenses when prompted. You must have Internet access for the deactivation process.
Use the following instructions to uninstall using the Carbonite Replication Console.
- Open the Carbonite Replication Console.
- From the Jobs page, confirm that there are no jobs currently using the server that you want to uninstall from. If there are, stop and delete those jobs.
- From the Servers page, highlight the server you want to uninstall from and click Uninstall
from the toolbar. - When the uninstallation is complete, select License Inventory in the toolbar.
- Internet access—If you have Internet access, click Activate
. Select Activate online and click OK. This option will contact the Carbonite activation web site to automatically deactivate the licenses that have been uninstalled through the Carbonite Replication Console. - No Internet access—If you do not have Internet access, use the following procedure.
- Click Export Licenses
and save your license inventory to a file. - From a machine with Internet access, go to https://activate.doubletake.com and upload your exported license inventory file. You will receive an email with an updated license inventory file.
- Click Import Licenses
and specify the updated license inventory that you received. Confirm that you want to activate the licenses, which in this case is actually deactivating the licenses.
- Click Export Licenses
- Internet access—If you have Internet access, click Activate
After your license has been deactivated, you can reuse it on another Carbonite Availability server.
