Determining your Double-Take product or job type

Double-Take is an exceptionally flexible product that can be used in a wide variety of configurations. However, this flexibility can make it difficult to determine which Double-Take job is right for your environment. Use the following matrix to help you determine your job type.

The available job types for each product are highlighted in blue under the Availability columns, red under the DR columns, and green under the Move columns. Start with column one and determine what you are protecting or migrating. Then in the second and third columns, identify your source and target. Once you have determined your specific configuration, follow that row over to the selected job type.

  1. If your source is a domain controller, you should protect the entire server using one of the job types in the Entire server rows of the Availability columns because of complexities with SPNs and authentication.
  2. Choose this job type if your source and target are on different networks.
  3. Choose this job type if your source and target are on the same network.
  4. Choose this job type if you want to be able to reverse protection after failover.
  5. Choose this job type if you want to create a new virtual machine during failover so the target can retain its identity.
